Hepatic encephalopathy


Hepatic encephalopathy is an ailment of brain which caused by liver complication. Encephalopathy in medical term stands for brain disorder. Patient suffering from cirrhosis are mostly affected by Hepatic encephalopathy. Toxic materials are the main causes of cirrhosis. The toxic materials that are removed by liver get stored in the blood. The blood flows through the veins. These toxicated bloods may reach the brain. The main causes of these disorders are impairment of liver functioning .Mental condition of the patient deteriorates. Patients are affected by cerebral attacks. Multi organ failure is also a major sign of Hepatic encephalopathy.

The causes of these kinds of human disorders are still unknown. As it is a liver caused by damaged liver, we should take proper care of it.

 

Excess amount of ammonia is one of the causes of this disorder. In due course of life blood of a human body also gets contaminated by many toxic elements. Harmful substances increase to an alarming. As it is a liver related problem, people suffering from hepatitis are often attacked by this brain disorder. The common symptoms of these diseases could be diarrhea and vomiting. Some suffers from constipation and bleeding inside the stomach. Bacterial infections are found in the patients. High protein into one’s body can trigger this type of ailment. Alcoholic persons are high vulnerable to this disorder.

Some other causes that cause this disorder are:

1 Low oxygen percentage in body

2 Deficiency in potassium

3 Alkalosis

4 CSonsumption of narcotic and sedatives

 

The signs and symptoms of these diseases can be change in the mood of patients. These behavior of the person changes very frequently. Drowsiness can be seen in these patients. The patient can even face problem while talking.

 

Some other symptoms of Hepatic encephalopathy:

 

1 Decrease in attention

2 Personality of patient changes

3 Sleeping habits of patient changes

4 Patient tend to forget things quickly

5 Muscles gets stiff

6 Decrease in responses

 


The diagnosis of these kinds of patients is mainly physical examination. Along with this the mental status of the patient is also tested. Blood test and electroencephalography are conducted for better diagnosis of the patients. The only way for complete cure is elimination of the toxic material from the blood. The toxic material gets accumulated in the intestine. They should be treated as early as possible.

 

The person can eliminate these toxic substances by restricted diet plan. The protein intake can cause problem. So patients are asked to avoid eggs and meats. The reduction in protein percentage can reduce the ammonia in body, which causes these ailments. The diets should be replaced by vegetable proteins like cereals. Oral carbohydrates are supplied to the body to combat weakness. High fiber content vegetables are given. The passage of food into the intestine gets easier. The stomach acidity can also be controlled by the eating vegetables. Lactulose helps in acidifying ammonia into ammonium. This ammonium can easily be excreted from the human body. This lactulose are given orally to the patient. Medicines for safe bowel movent are also prescribed to reduce the level of toxin absorption.
